Wayne County to pay tribute to fallen warriors in Memorial Day ceremonies

The 2026 “Flags In” and Memorial Day ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 23, to honor the fallen warriors of Wayne County.

Activities begin Saturday at 8 a.m. with a breakfast at the American Legion Wayne Post 11 located at 2973 US Hwy 117 South. Following this event, the Memorial Tribute to the Fallen and the flag distribution to team leaders will be held at 9 a.m.

Following the breakfast and ceremonies, volunteers will report to their assigned cemeteries to place flags on the graves of fallen warriors. Flags will be distributed at the cemeteries by the team leaders. Cemeteries to be worked are Wayne Memorial Park, Wayne Memorial Park North, Elmwood, Willowdale, and Evergreen Cemeteries.

This event will conclude Monday, May 25, at 2:30 p.m. with the Observance of the National Moment of Silence at Wayne County Veterans Memorial and the wreath laying ceremony at the Courthouse Doughboy statue at the court house. The guests of honor will be James and Christina Kazakavage, Gold Star parents of TSgt. Adam K. Ginnet, USAF, killed in action during Operation Enduring Freedom.
