Sampson man charged in father’s death

A 29-year-old Sampson County man is behind bars today, charged in connection with the death of his father, who was found dead the day after Christmas.

James Lockamy of 2147 Microwave Tower Road, Roseboro has been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter and placed in the Sampson County Detention Center without privilege of bond, pending a hearing on the case later this week.

According to Sampson County Sheriff’s Capt. Marcus Smith, Lockamy turned himself in to authorities at the magistrate’s office Wednesday morning.

His arrest comes on the heels of what Smith called a “thorough and lengthy” investigation into the death of Charles Frankie Long, 54, who was found dead inside his 125 Manuel Lane, Clinton, home on Dec. 26, 2025.

Deputies had responded to that residence on Dec. 26, answering a call regarding a deceased individual being found in the residence.

When deputies arrived, reports noted, they found Long.

Smith said an investigation into the incident was opened at that time. That probed showed Long had been involved in a physical altercation on Christmas night with Lockamy who, after the fight, had left the residence.

Investigators, Smith noted, determined that Long died as a result of internal injuries sustained during the altercation.

“After a thorough and lengthy investigation, and in coordination with the District Attorney’s Office, probable cause was established to charge James Lockamy with felony involuntary manslaughter,” the sheriff’s captain said.
