SMITHFIELD — Senior Drew Bryan earned three medals and helped lead Southern Wayne’s boys to a fourth-place finish during the season-ending Quad County 3A swimming championship meet.
Bryan touched the wall second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 13.75 seconds. He claimed third in the 200 individual medley (2:45.33) and swam the anchor leg on the 400 free relay, which placed second in 4:13.91.
Joining Bryan on the relay were Dylan Daniels, Daniel Weeks and Thomas Weaver.
Weeks collected a bronze medal (third place) in the 500-yard free. He completed the grueling, 20-lap event in 6:57.71. The senior ended up fourth in the 200 free with a time of 2:31.9.
Jonah Reyes took fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:32.06).
Daniels turned in a seventh-place time (1:04.44) in the 100 free. Weaver was 13th, while Matthew Blizzard ended up 25th.
Evin Williams was sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:23.31).
Southern Wayne took seventh and ninth in the 200 medley relay and ninth in the 200 free relay.
As a team, the Saints amassed 225.5 points.
Senior Sarah Sutton placed 14th in the 100 free (1:29.53) and 17th in the 50 free (39.81). The Saints’ lone female competitor, Sutton collected 10 points for her efforts.
West Johnston captured the boys’ crown with 393 points, while Smithfield-Selma emerged as the girls’ team champ with 344 points.
