SEVEN SPRINGS — Spring Creek remains unbeaten on the softball diamond through two weeks of regular-season play.

Winning pitcher Emily Williams logged 13 strikeouts in the scorebook during the Gators’ 11-7, non-conference win over Southern Wayne on Wednesday evening. The right-hander permitted five runs (none earned) on three hits in six-plus innings inside the circle.

Sarah Hess notched the save.

The Gators broke a 7-7 deadlock with a four-run, sixth-inning uprising.

“We got tight in the sixth, but we are starting to put it together,” first-year SW head coach Andy Sullivan said.

Hess batted 4-for-4 and stole two bases. Williams provided three hits, two RBI and two stolen bases. Jasmine Valentine (three RBI) and Mattie Staps (three RBI) each had two hits. Defensively, Staps recorded 13 putouts and two assists behind the plate.

AnnMarie Howard (RBI) contributed one hit and swiped a base. Nhayiris Gadea Sevilla ended up 1-for-3.

Gators edge Wildcats

NEWTON GROVE — Hess hit for the cycle — single, double, triple and home run — during Spring Creek’s 7-6, non-conference conquest of Hobbton Tuesday evening.

Jasmine Valentine belted a home run and collected three RBI. Williams and Vanessa Durettya registered two hits apiece. Heather Alexander supplied one hit.

Williams emerged as the winning pitcher. The junior yielded five hits, walked three and retired seven Wildcats on strikeouts in a complete-game performance.

Spring Creek returns to action March 14 at Rosewood. Game time is 6 p.m.
