The 2025 “Flags In” and Memorial Day ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 24, to honor the fallen warriors of Wayne County.

Activities begin Saturday at 8 a.m. with a breakfast at the American Legion Wayne Post 11 located at 2973 US Hwy 117 South. Following this event, the Memorial Tribute to the Fallen and the flag distribution to team leaders will be held at 9 a.m. The guest speaker will be CMsgt. Charlie Lesbier, senior enlisted advisor of the 916 FSS at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Following the breakfast and ceremonies, volunteers will report to their assigned cemeteries to place flags on the graves of fallen warriors. Flags will be distributed at the cemeteries by the team leaders. Cemeteries to be worked are Wayne Memorial Park, Wayne Memorial Park West, Elmwood, Willowdale, and Evergreen Cemeteries.

This event will conclude Monday, May 26, at 2:30 p.m. with the Observance of the National Moment of Silence at Wayne County Veterans Memorial and the wreath laying ceremony at the Courthouse Doughboy statue at the court house.
