Two Mount Olive teens have earned scouting highest honor.

Hunter Ricks Merritt, 17, of Mount Olive, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout during his recent Court of Honor ceremony. He is a member of Troop 200 of Mount Olive. He is the son of Geoffrey and Jennifer Merritt, and brother to Anna Grace.

Merritt’s Eagle Scout project consisted of building a walking bridge on the campus of the University of Mount Olive, allowing access to the baseball and soccer fields and tennis courts, from main campus. Hunter is a rising senior at Southern Wayne High School and is a member of Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church.

Billy R. McCoy, III, 18, also of Mount Olive, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 200 of Mount Olive. He is the nephew of Jim and Sonya O’Brien.

For his Eagle Scout project, Billy constructed food pantry shelves for two rooms at the Salvation Army in Goldsboro. Billy is a May graduate of North Duplin High School and will attend college next year.
