SMITHFIELD — Donovan Armwood knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer in the closing seconds to lift Southern Wayne past Smithfield-Selma, 60-57, on the Quad County 3A boys’ basketball scene Tuesday evening.

Armwood finished with 13 points for the Saints, who remained unbeaten in four QCC outings this season.

Chris McDuffie also collected 13 points, while Eli Boykin tallied seven.

“Another great team win, not pretty, but definitely a win to build on for the future and to keep a winning vibe in ‘The Halo,’” said SW head coach Brian West.

The Saints improved to 7-5 overall.

On the girls’ side, Jamaiya Bass tallied 14 points as Southern Wayne throttled the Spartans, 43-6.

Elaina Lane turned in an 8-point effort for the Saints, who extended their QCC win streak to 14. Sophomore guard Nevaeh Hines-Bass scored seven points, while Nygeria Thompson logged five points in the scorebook.

Southern Wayne (10-3 overall, 4-0 QCC) returns home Thursday for a conference encounter against Wilson Fike. The JV girls’ game tips off at 3:45 p.m.
