BETHEL — Perennial Eastern Plains 2A powerhouse North Pitt knocked Southern Wayne from the unbeaten ranks Wednesday evening.

The Panthers forced 21 turnovers and handed the Saints a 43-24, non-conference setback on the varsity girls’ basketball scene. The loss snapped Southern Wayne’s regular-season win streak at 26.

Senior forward Jamaiya Bass paced the Saints’ offense with seven points and pulled down six rebounds. Nevaeh Hines-Bass contributed six points. Senior Ta’Niyah Glaspie grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds and provided five points.

Nygeria Thompson snared a career-best 10 rebounds. Elaina Lane supplied six rebounds and two steals.

Southern Wayne converted just seven field goals and shot 9 of 15 (60 percent) at the free throw line.

The Saints (4-1 overall) visit county rival Eastern Wayne on Friday.
