WENDELL — Mia Glaspie triumphed in a debut on the wrestling mat and nine other teammates recorded at least one individual victory during a Quad County 3A tri-meet held at East Wake on Wednesday evening.

The Saints turned back West Johnston 45-32 and defeated the host Warriors 39-37.

“We had one of our worst efforts this year as far as heart goes and that was disappointing, but they stayed together and got two solid [dual] wins,” SW head coach Tori King said.

Glaspie earned forfeits at 113 and 120 pounds.

Omar Soler Sanchez benefited from Glaspie’s insertion into the lineup. The freshman pinned West Johnston 113-pounder Cadience Chavis and East Wake 120-pounder Eathon Eaton.

“Omar took care of business and helped solidify the win,” King said. “[He] wrestled very well tonight and picked up two huge wins for us.”

Amari Thompson (145 pounds), Lamontez White (220) and Oswaldo Quiroz (138) each ended the night 2-0. Heavyweight siblings Eli and Hudson Hulet, Josiah Bell (126), Joseph Evans (182) and Narderon Cox (220) each logged a 1-0 record.

Southern Wayne (4-7 overall, 3-1 QCC) returns to the mats Saturday for the annual USAF-Eagle Invitational at Rosewood. Opening-round matches begin at 9 a.m.
