DUDLEY — The Southern Wayne Saints powered their way to a convincing 15–5 non-conference victory over the Beddingfield Bruins, overcoming an early deficit before exploding offensively and locking down defensively to secure the win.

The Bruins struck first in the opening inning after getting a runner on base early. With two outs already recorded by Saints pitcher No. 1 James Graham, Beddingfield’s No. 19 Jahtavious Johnson reached base and advanced aggressively. A successful steal allowed the Bruins to bring home the game’s first run, giving them a quick 1–0 lead. Southern Wayne quickly responded when they stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first inning.

Saints Respond with Explosive First Inning

Leading off for the Saints, No. 1 James Graham drew a walk after four balls and immediately made an impact on the basepaths. After stealing his way to third base, he was brought home by a clutch hit from No. 15 Logan Denning tying the game at 1–1.

The Saints’ offense continued to heat up. With No. 10 Channing Grady and No. 15 Logan Denning on base, No. 2 Kameran Diggins added another base hit to load the bases and keep the pressure on the Bruins’ defense.

Moments later, No. 27 Peyton Harrell hit a ground ball toward shortstop that turned into a costly miscommunication for the Bruins. The error allowed No. 15 Logan Denning and No. 10 Channing Grady to score, giving the Saints their first lead of the day.

Southern Wayne’s aggressive base running continued to cause problems for Beddingfield. With multiple steals and heads-up go plays, the Saints added more runs, including another score from No. 27 Peyton Harrell, who comes in as he slides to home plate on a steal, pushing their advantage to 5–1 by the end of the inning.

Dominant Pitching Shuts Down Bruins

While the Saints’ offense surged, their pitching kept the Bruins from gaining momentum. Saints pitcher No. 1 James Graham delivered a dominant performance on the mound, recording multiple strikeouts throughout the game. In the second inning alone, he struck out two more Bruins with quick three-strikeout counts before another defensive play ended the inning. The strong pitching and defensive execution kept the Bruins from building sustained rallies.

Bruins Attempt Comeback

Beddingfield showed signs of life in the middle innings. Bruins No. 7 Anthony Hoeing sparked the offense with a base hit and aggressive base running, stealing both second and third base. A hit from No. 3 Kwacie Holiday Jr. and additional base runners helped the Bruins load the bases and push across several runs.

A big hit from the Bruins brought in multiple runners, briefly narrowing the Saints’ lead and giving Beddingfield momentum. However, Southern Wayne quickly responded.

Saints Pull Away with Big Offensive Inning

The Saints regained full control thanks to explosive base running and timely hitting.

No. 1 James Graham again proved to be a difference-maker, stealing two bases and scoring to extend the Saints’ lead. Additional hits from No. 10 Channing Grady and aggressive base running from No. 15 Logan Denning helped pile on more runs.

Southern Wayne continued to capitalize on every opportunity, pushing their lead to 11–4 and adding insurance runs.

By the end of the fourth inning, the Saints had built a commanding 15–4 lead, putting the game well out of reach.

Saints Close the Door

In the final inning, the Bruins managed to get runners on base, including No. 3 Kwacie Holiday Jr., who scored after a miscommunication by the Saints’ defense.

However, Southern Wayne quickly recovered. A smart defensive play by No. 1 James Graham caught No. 19 Jahtavious Johnson attempting to steal, followed by another strikeout to shut down the rally. With one final strikeout against No. 16 Damantae Mangum, the Saints sealed the victory.

Final Score: Southern Wayne Saints 15, Beddingfield Bruins 5
