SEVEN SPRINGS — Three Spring Creek players provided the offensive output during a 3-0, non-conference conquest over Roanoke Rapids on the soccer pitch Thursday evening.

Senior Emanuel Rangel, junior Yoimar Carias Sequeira and senior Yontan Gonzalez tallied one goal apiece.

Goalie Edgar Avila filed a clean sheet between the pipes. The senior recorded one save.

The Gators opened their season with a 1-1 draw at St. Paul’s High School. Marin Lopez notched the lone goal.

Spring Creek (1-0-1 overall) returns home Monday for a non-conference outing against East Central 2A powerhouse James Kenan. Kickoff is 6 p.m. in “The Swamp.”

SC volleyball gets first win

GOLDSBORO – After an 0-2 start to the season, Spring Creek’s volleyball team stepped into the “win” column Thursday afternoon.

The Gators knocked off Wayne Country Day 25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16.

“For the first this season, we started passing the ball and gave Heather [Alexander] the chances to get some really good hits,” second-year SC head coach Chad Kirby said. “We worked good as a team. Communication was there. [A] really good for the team and these seniors.”

Spring Creek (1-2 overall) visits Hobbton next Tuesday.

Rebels fall to Panthers

CALYPSO — North Duplin dominated the opening set, but county volleyball rival East Duplin battled back for a 14-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 victory Thursday afternoon.

Lilly Fulghum dished out 20 assists, served seven aces and picked up seven digs during the four-set contest. Ady Spence collected seven aces and six digs defensively, while Eva Quintanilla collected five aces and seven kills.

Maggie Brown knocked down seven kills, while Abigeal Norris Brown had three kills. Senior Tateyawna Faison logged three blocks.

Libero Marissa Bernal emerged as the defensive leader with a career-high 27 digs. M’Chelle Jaco registered eight digs.

The Rebels had 63 digs as a team.

North Duplin (1-1 overall) entertains James Kenan on Aug. 21.
