RALEIGH — Volunteers from Wake County came together for an environmental service initiative as part of a river cleanup organized by the global nonprofit Dr. Shri Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan (DSNDP).
The cleanup took place April 12, at 2300 Main Campus Dr. Raleigh, where eight volunteers participated in the Adopt-A-River program in partnership with the Department of Engineering Services Raleigh Stormwater .
During the effort, volunteers collected 9 large bags of litter of two acres of area alongside the Lake, removing nearly 225 pounds of roadside waste. The initiative helped improve roadside safety, reduce environmental pollution, and enhance the beauty of the local community.
DSNDP’s service activities are inspired by the philosophy “ Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” meaning “The world is one family.” Under the guidance of Dr. Shri Appasaheb Dharmadhikari and Dr. Shri Sachindada Dharmadhikari , the nonprofit has been mobilizing volunteers across the United States since July 2022 to participate in environmental and community service initiatives.
In North Carolina alone, DSNDP volunteers have completed six cleanup drives, involving 325 volunteers who contributed 849 volunteer hours and collected more than 7950 pounds of trash.
Across the United States, the nonprofit’s environmental initiatives span 19 states and 80 cities, engaging 4,389 volunteers who have collectively removed more than 66840 pounds of litter from communities nationwide.
In addition to environmental programs, DSNDP organizes tree plantation drives, women’s health awareness programs, and blood and plasma donation initiatives across North America, reflecting the organization’s ongoing commitment to community service and social responsibility.
