The Wayne County Veterans & Patriots Coalition’s annual Veterans Day Parade will be held, Tuesday Nov. 11.
Eric Busse, President of the Wayne County Veterans & Patriots Coalition, said he anticipates many participants this year.
The coalition suggests that everyone take a moment to celebrate and honor all Veterans who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States.
The grand marshal this year will be WWII Army Combat Veteran Thurston Quinn. After graduating high school in 1943, Quinn was drafted into the U.S. Army. After basis training, his platoon was sent to France to support the war. He also saw combat in Luxemburg and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star twice, the Combat Infantry Badge and an Occupation Badge. Quinn will be celebrating his 100th birthday on Dec. 14.
The parade lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. at S. Center Street and Spruce Street. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and proceed south down Center Street, u-turn at Pine Street and proceed north on Center Street and end at Ash Street.
Those wishing to enter this year’s parade may download the application form at waynegov.com. There are no entry fees. After completing the application, return it to Danitra Shuford, Veterans Services Assistant at the Veteran Services Office, 2001-D E. Ash St, Goldsboro NC, 27533, or by fax at 919-731-1685. Deadline for entries is noon, Friday, Nov. 7.
All entries must carry, display or exhibit patriotic themes.
Following the parade there will be a memorial service by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at 1 p.m. at the Wayne County Veterans Memorial at the intersection of N. William Street and E Walnut Street across from the County Court House.
