NEWTON GROVE — Aaliyah Kornegay recorded her first career double-double Thursday evening with 18 points and 14 rebounds during Spring Creek’s 54-33 thrashing of former Carolina 1A rival Hobbton.

Kornegay converted 7 of 13 field goals. She collected seven steals, blocked three shots and doled out two assists.

Kiarah Pearson contributed 11 points and three steals.

Junior center Heather Alexander logged her second consecutive double-digit rebound (16) effort and scratched for nine points. Emily Williams dished out a team-leading four assists and flirted with a double-double – eight points, nine rebounds.

Sarah Kirby provided four points, 11 rebounds and six steals. Vanessa Duruttya notched three points. Natalie Jackson snared eight rebounds.

Spring Creek, unofficially, set a single-game school record with 63 rebounds as a team. Coach Paul Hayes’ club attempted a season-high 76 shots.

The Gators claimed their eighth consecutive triumph over the Wildcats and hold an 11-3 advantage in the series since 2012. Spring Creek (7-12 overall) returns home today for senior night against Neuse Six 2A rival Princeton.
