FOUR OAKS — Southern Wayne concluded first-half play on the Quad County 3A basketball scene with a 2-1 outcome against South Johnston Wednesday afternoon.

Jayden Hardy pumped in a team- and game-high 25 points during the Saints’ 64-61 triumph in varsity action. Hardy dropped in 17 second-half points, including seven from the free throw line.

Chris Carmon contributed 14 points. Kairel Evans and Demetrius Elliott collected nine points apiece.

Southern Wayne (7-10 overall, 3-4 QCC) has won two of the last three meetings and 10 of 15 overall against the Trojans since 2010.

In JV boys action, Zymere Vick and Ivory Moore knocked down 10 points apiece in a 38-34 victory. The Saints rallied from a third-quarter deficit to claim their second consecutive QCC win.

Jaden Moore provided eight points, including six in the fourth period. DuQuan Stevens scratched for four points.

Southern Wayne’s girls continue to drop down the QCC ladder after a 45-22 loss. South Johnston snapped a six-game losing streak against the Saints, who dipped to 6-11 overall and 3-4 against league opposition this season.

Kymora Stokes paced SW with seven points. Jaycee Hargrove scored five. Azariah Jordan, Destiny Bullock, Myhirah Hunter, Kylie Hyde and Wilberline Senatus recorded two points apiece.

The Saints return home Friday to face QCC rival East Wake.
