PIKEVILLE — Southern Wayne’s varsity basketball teams ended regular-season play with a pair of losses to county and Quad County 3A rival Charles B. Aycock on Friday evening.
DuJuan Armwood pumped in a team-leading 20 points during the Saints’ 74-57 setback.
Donovan Armwood provided 10 points. TyQuavious Williams and Chris Carmon contributed seven points.
“We didn’t hit first last night and typically, defensively, we are better than we were last night,” SW head coach Brian West said. “Still, in all, we battled as a unit and as a coach, win lose, that’s all you can ask for your guys to battle until the end of the ball game.”
The Saints (12-10 overall) finished 9-5 against QCC opposition. They open quarterfinal-round QCC tournament play at home Tuesday against Hunt. Tip-off is 6 p.m. at “The Halo.”
Girls
Injury-riddled and bruised Southern Wayne (16-7, 10-4) continued its struggles in second-half QCC action with a 46-44 loss.
Jamaiya Bass stuffed her stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Ta’Niyah Glaspie just missed a double-double with 12 points, eight steals and five rebounds.
Elaina Lane contributed nine points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Nygeria Thompson logged six points and six rebounds. Kyren Strong had four points and four rebounds.
The Saints shot a miserable 12 of 26 (46.1 percent), while the Golden Falcons converted 15 of 18 attempts.
Trinity Daniels knocked down a team- and game-high 18 points.
Southern Wayne, which finished 4-3 in second-half QCC play, returns home Monday for an opening-round QCC tournament contest against South Johnston. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
