WILSON — Four Southern Wayne athletes captured individual titles during the season-ending 2023 Quad County 3A indoor track and field championship meet contested Tuesday afternoon.

Jy’Asha Cousins claimed the girls’ 55-meter hurdle crown in 9.29 seconds.

Senior Ta’Niyah Glaspie finished runner-up in the girls’ 55-meter dash (7.54), while Angel Harmon took third in the 300 dash in 45.36.

Malachi Bass earned the lone boys’ medal with a second-place mark of 36 feet, 6 inches in the triple jump. Bass crossed the line fifth in the 500 run with a time of 1:18.56.

Jeremy Whitley and sophomore Iyanah Southerland each wound up fourth in the 55 hurdles and shot put, respectively.

West Johnston and East Wake secured the boys’ and girls’ team titles, respectively. The Saints took sixth in the girls and seventh in the boys.
