WILSON — Eli Boykin recorded a double-double — 15 points, 11 rebounds — during Southern Wayne’s 54-51 road conquest of Quad County 3A boys’ basketball rival Fike on Tuesday evening.

DuJuan Armwood contributed 10 points, four steals and three rebounds. Jaylon Council provided seven points, five rebounds and three steals. TyQuavious Williams supplied seven points and two steals.

“The guys played hard, good defense [and] had a chance to push the lead out, but gave up a few baskets that made the game tighter,” said Saints head coach Brian West, whose team has won four of its last five games.

“Tedarius Butler hit his biggest shots of the night. My guys played together. I’m proud of where we have grown.”

The Saints rose to 12-9 overall and 9-4 against QCC opposition.

Girls

Fike dethroned Southern Wayne as the QCC regular-season champion with a 59-38 win. The Golden Demons (18-4, 12-1) extended their win streak to six and clinched the league’s automatic berth to the NC High School Athletic Association 3A playoffs.

Senior forward Ta’Niyah Glaspie led the Saints with a double-double – 15 points and 10 rebounds. Nygeria Thompson registered eight points and 10 rebounds. Senior Jamaiya Bass logged eight points and four rebounds.

Elaina Lane scored seven points — all at the free throw line.

Fike led 19-5 after one quarter.

The Saints couldn’t overcome 20 turnovers and a paltry 8 of 19 (42.1 percent) night at the free throw line. Coach Ricky Lofton’s club endured its fourth road defeat of the season.

Southern Wayne (16-6, 10-3) concludes the regular season Friday at county rival Charles B. Aycock. The JV girls tip off at 4 p.m. inside the Falcons’ Nest.
