CARY — The few.The proud.The Super Seven.

Guided by third-year head coach Natalie Ira, a septet of Southern Wayne swimmers concluded their season with outstanding performances in the 2023 NC High School Athletic Association eastern 3A regionals.

Though none reached the medal podium, all turned in quality times against some of the region’s top competition at the Cary Aquatic Center.

The 200 medley and 400 free relays finished 12th and 14th, respectively. The 200 free relay wound up 24th.

Senior Drew Bryan touched the wall 17th during the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 43.39 seconds. Bryan placed 21st in the 100 backstroke in 1:12.88.

Daniel Weeks wound up 23rd in the 200 free (2:29.81) and 23rd overall in the 500 free (6:45.54).

It was also a bittersweet day as well.

Ira announced earlier this season she planned to step down to concentrate on teaching duties and a home-oriented business that continues to grow.
