CALYPSO — Addy Higginbotham tickled the twine for a game- and career-high 29 points, and North Duplin clinched a share of the 2023 Carolina 1A girls’ basketball regular-season title with a 62-35 thrashing of Union on Friday evening.
The Rebels (17-1 overall, 8-0) clinched the automatic bid to the NC High School Athletic Association playoffs, which tip off in mid-February.
A multi-sport athlete, Higginbotham knocked down 16 points in the second quarter and shot a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line. She handed out seven assists, pulled down four rebounds and picked the Spartans for four steals.
Reece Outlaw contributed 14 points and three assists. Lily Brothus collected eight points and four rebounds. Tateyawna Faison tallied five points and wiped the glass with 13 rebounds.
Lilly Fulghum snagged eight rebounds, while Meghan Martin grabbed five rebounds.
North Duplin puts its 10-game win streak on the line Tuesday at Rosewood.
