FOUR OAKS — Sophomore Eli Boykin posted a double-double — 14 points, 10 rebounds — during Southern Wayne’s 77-66 loss to South Johnston on the Quad County 3A boys’ basketball scene Tuesday evening.

Boykin also blocked three shots.

Chris Carmon just missed a double-double — 19 points, nine rebounds. TyQuavious Williams contributed 10 points and four rebounds.

The teams combined to attempt 66 free throws — 22 by the Saints and 40 by the Trojans. Boykin, Donovan Armwood and DuJuan Armwood each fouled out for Southern Wayne.

“My guys grinded, played hard and played pretty well against a well-coached team,” said SW head coach Brian West, whose team is 10-9 overall and 7-4 against QCC opposition this season.

On the girls’ side, Nygeria Thompson filed a double-double — 14 points, 13 rebounds — in the Saints’ 41-32 triumph over the Trojans.

Jamaiya Bass had nine points. Kyren Strong scored six points, while Elaina Lane chipped in five points.

The Saints (15-5 overall, 9-2 QCC) celebrate senior night Friday. Smithfield-Selma is the guest.
