SALEMBURG — Marcus Hill, Luis Avilez and Geo Ayala combined for four individual titles and helped North Duplin’s boys place second as a team during the 2023 Carolina 1A indoor track and field championships ran at Lakewood High School on Tuesday afternoon.
Hill posted meet-winning marks in the triple jump (36 feet, 4.25 inches) and the high jump (5-4). He took second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.51 seconds) and fifth in the long jump (16-7.25).
Ayala claimed the 1,000-meter run in 3:14. Avilez won the 500 dash in 1:15).
Khamari Leak wound up second in the 300 (40.41) and long jump (17-6), and secured third in the 55 dash (6.83). Luke Holland finished runner-up in the 3,200 run (12:55) and third in the one-mile run (5:45).
Antonio Rosas earned third place in the 1,000 run (3:16).
The Rebels won the 4×8 relay and finished second in both the 4×2 and 4×4 relays.
Mason Dixon, Kayden Turner, Jose Aleman, Henry Lopez-Ramirez and Osmar Lopez-Martinez also contributed to the Rebels’ team score of 98 points. Lakewood picked up the team crown with 101 points.
Distance specialist Baker Sumner emerged as the Carolina 1A runner-up in both the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. Valencya Stemmler was second in the 300, while sister Tristen logged third-place times in the 55 dash and 300.
Michelle Matute finished second in the shot put.
The Rebels were runners-up in the 4×4 and 4×8 relays, and third in the 4xx2 relay.
Aniyah Croswell, Lily Stringer, Jazmine Manzanares, Jisel Jimenez-Hernand, Rocsana Lopez-Ramirez, Jackie Modina Guzman and Judith Rangel also competed in the meet. North Duplin finished third in the team-title race with 52 points.
Hobbton won the league championship with 111 points.
