Defending conference champions North Duplin and Southern Wayne continued their respective regular-season title quests on the hardwood Friday evening.

Reece Outlaw knocked down 24 points and doled out six assists as the Rebels turned back Neuse Charter, 54-36, on the Carolina 1A girls’ basketball scene. The Rebels remained unbeaten in six league outings.

Meanwhile, Nygeria Thompson posted a double-double — 18 points, 15 rebounds — during the Lady Saints’ 49-37 road conquest of Quad County 3A rival Wilson Hunt. Southern Wayne notched its eighth conference win in 10 tries.

On the boys’ side, Southern Wayne handed Hunt a 48-39 loss.

North Duplin’s JV boys toppled Neuse Charter, 59-37.

Rebel girls cruise

SMITHFIELD-SELMA — Sophomore Addy Higginbotham provided 13 points, five assists and three steals to help North Duplin deal Neuse Charter its fourth league defeat this season.

Meghan Martin supplied two points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds. Tateyawna Faison contributed eight points and five rebounds.

Officials called a total of 33 fouls in the physical contest. Martin and Faison fouled out for the Rebels, who converted 6 of 11 free throw attempts. Neuse Charter wound up 13 of 26 at the stripe.

The Rebels conclude their three-game road swing Tuesday at Lakewood.

SW girls prevail

WILSON — Jamaiya Bass recorded 13 points, two assists and three steals as Southern Wayne improved to 4-0 all-time against Hunt since the QCC’s inception last year.

Elaina Lane stuffed her stat sheet with nine points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Ta’Niyah Glaspie had five points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

Kyren Strong scored four points.

The Saints (14-5 overall) are the guests of South Johnston on Tuesday.

Saints upend Warriors

WILSON — Donovan Armwood logged 12 points and handed out seven assists as Southern Wayne stopped Hunt in their QCC battle.

“My guys played tremendous defense individually and as a unit,” said Saints head coach Brian West. “The guys played the game hard and capitalized on turnovers that were created to give us a great deal of momentum in the first half.”

Tyquavious Williams finished with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. De’Untae Wright registered nine points, two steals and five assists. Chris Carmon had eight points and seven rebounds.

“[The] guys are building good momentum, taking care of business and knowing that the mission is one game at a time,” West said.

The Saints (10-8 overall, 7-3 QCC) travel to South Johnston on Tuesday.

Martin leads Rebel JVs

SMITHFIELD — Branson Martin notched 12 of his team-high 14 points in the opening half during North Duplin’s double-digit triumph over Neuse Charter in Carolina 1A play.

Tev Collins chipped in 12 points. Luke Kelly and Kayden Bowden tallied seven points apiece. Rahmear Gates scored six points.

North Duplin (15-2 overall, 5-1 Carolina) visits Lakewood on Tuesday.
