GOLDSBORO — Khamari Leak emerged victorious in two individual events and North Duplin emerged as the top-scoring boys’ team during a Carolina 1A indoor track meet contested at Eastern Wayne.

Leak claimed the 300-meter dash in 40.9 seconds and recorded a mark of 17 feet, 11 inches in the long jump.

Marcus Hill bested the competition in the 55-meter dash with a time of 9.3 seconds. Geo Avala took the 1,000-meter run in 3 minutes, 22 seconds. Luis Avilez-Gonzalez won the 500 run in 1:19.

North Duplin captured first in the 4×2 and 4×4 relays, and finished two seconds behind Hobbton in the 4×8.

The Rebels logged 107 points, with 93 coming in track events.

On the girls’ side, distance runner Baker Sumner took third in the 1,600 run (7:38) and 3,200 (17:19). She also ran the anchor leg on the 4×8 relay that ended up second to Hobbton.

Aniyah Croswell secured third in the 55 dash in 8.3 seconds. Teammate Ana Serna-Mejia placed third in the 1,000 run (4:50), while Jasmine Manzanares wound up fourth in the 500 run (1:55).

Michell Matute and Genesys Holguin accounted for the Rebels’ five points in field events. Matute wound up fourth in the shot put (22-7), while Holguin seized sixth with a throw of 19 feet.

North Duplin tallied 60 points, including 55 in track events.

The Rebels return to action Jan. 18 at Lakewood.
