NEW BERN — Omar Soler Sanchez is back on track.

The Southern Wayne freshman has won four straight on the wresting mat since a disappointing fourth-place finish in the Falcon Invitational on Dec. 30.

Sanchez pinned Pamlico County 106-pounder Brian Brothers in 92 seconds. He followed that up with a challenging, 14-5 major decision over New Bern’s Remy Chau.

While Sanchez enjoyed success, the Saints — as a team — struggled once again. Pamlico handed SW a 66-12 loss, while perennial 4A power New Bern recorded a 66-16 decision.

Antonio Police (160 pounds) pinned New Bern’s William Sekel in 2 minutes, 52 seconds. Teammate Joseph Evans (182) stuck New Bern’s Aidan Hodge as time expired in the first period.

Mia Glaspie-Leach earned a forfeit at 113 pounds against Pamlico.

Southern Wayne (7-15 overall) continues its season-ending, nine-match road swing Jan. 10 at North Lenoir. The Saints face the host Hawks, county rival Eastern Wayne and Neuse Six 2A member North Johnston.
