Steele Memorial Library’s Teen Summer Learning Programs — free and open to all teens — run the gamut from exploring Camp Jellybean in the Kids on Bikes RPG to discovering the answers to life’s mysteries (sort of) with s’mores.

Following is a list of all programs being offered for teens this summer. Even though there is no charge to participate, patrons are asked to call 919-299-8105, ext. 2 to register for any programs in which they are interested. All programs are to be held at the library, located at 119 W. Main Street in Mount Olive.

And…keep an eye out for a new monthly column to be launched on June 3 on MountOliveTribune.com, where you can learn more about these programs and other library happenings throughout the year.

June 13, 5-6:30 p.m.: Tuesday the 13th: Horror at Camp Jellybean

SUMMER CAMP. For some, it’s six months of fun in the sun. For others, it’s a hot and sticky torture. As far as Camp Jellybean goes, however, everyone can agree that something ain’t quite right… Grab your bike (fictional) and your friends (real) and uncover the mystery of Camp Jellybean this June! Join the Steele Memorial Library for this TTRPG experience using the Kids on Bikes system by John Gilmour and Doug Levandowski.

June 20, 5-6:30 p.m.: Does it S’more?

Science is the pursuit of answers to life’s burning questions… How did we get here? Where are we going? Why do we exist? If I put a peppermint patty and black beans in between two Rice Krispie treats and pop that bad boy in the microwave, does it S’more? Discover the answer to all of these questions (just the S’more one) and more (only if they’re S’more related) at this Summer Learning program!

June 27, 5-7 p.m.: Cretaceous Cinema

The only things more iconic to summer than the sun, sea, and library programming are Summer Blockbusters! Come to the Steele Memorial Library this June for an interactive film with all the summer classics: amusement parks, family bonding, and giant dinosaurs.

July 11, 5-6:30 p.m.: Summer Games

A more traditional program for the sophisticated teen seeking to enjoy Steele Memorial Library’s Summer Learning programs. Work with your fellow teens to best your lessers in contests of strength, wit, and dexterity- This is the 2023 Summer Games

July 18, 5-6:30 p.m.: Summer Camp Party

Think of fireflies. Star-filled nights. Dying fires and a chill in the air as summer ends… We don’t have any of that, but we do have free pizza and board games! Come to Steele Memorial and relax for the last of our Teen Summer Programs.
