Tiffany Anselment lined up her putt. She took a couple of practice strokes and steadied her stance. Seconds later, her short shot dropped into the cup on hole No. 18.
Anselment and her Sleep Inn teammates, Stephanie Kornegay and Leslie Cloots, fired a 13-under 58 to take first flight honors in the annual Cabin Fever golf tournament Friday afternoon.
The trio edged the Kornegay 1 team of Tim Woodard, Chris Bitzenhofer and David Shields by one stroke on the challenging Southern Wayne Country Club links. Bitzenhofer is a former Wayne County Golf Amateur men’s Open Division champion.
Southern Bank 1 emerged as the second flight champ. Three teams — Baldwin 2, Beth Hill Art Studio and Jackson Farms 1 — finished with identical 6-under 65 scores. Baldwin 2 and Beth Hill Art Studio took second and third, respectively, based on a scorecard playoff.
Three Eagles Rotary from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base won third flight in playoff-card fashion. The group shot 2-under 69 along with runner-up First United Methodist Church and third-place Kornegay Insurance.
Mother Nature’s blue sky provided a picturesque backdrop and warm temperatures blanketed nearly 100 participants who participated.
The Rotary Club of Mount Olive is the main sponsor.
“[Proceeds] help us raise money through our Cabin Fever tournament because we use the funds to assist local people who face dire circumstances such as loss of home from a fire or a catastrophic illness,” said Barbara Kornegay, tournament manager and Rotary member.
“It’s Rotary’s way of ‘service to others.’”
David Thompson collected $1,820 in the 50-50 drawing.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were David Williams (No. 3), Todd Jones (No. 8), Stewart Hobbs (No. 11) and Ben King (No. 16). Each received a box of new golf balls.
