CALYPSO — North Duplin quickly ruined any prospects of an opening-round upset in the 2023 NC High School Athletic Association Class 1A girls’ basketball playoffs Tuesday evening.
The Rebels outscored Oxford Prep 39-4 in the first period and eventually claimed a 73-19, running-clock victory.
Reece Outlaw and Addy Higginbotham each flirted with a double-double for North Duplin, which plays host to 13th-seeded Voyager Academy on Thursday. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
Outlaw tallied 22 points and collected nine steals. Higginbotham provided 19 points, dished out nine assists and grabbed three steals.
Lily Brothus scored 11 points. Adaisha Bernal provided seven points, two assists and two steals. Tateyawna Faison registered five points, six steals and four rebounds.
Valaja Wallace supplied four points off the bench.
Senior multi-sport athlete Kasey Jones snagged three rebounds.
North Duplin (21-1 overall) extended its win streak to 14.
