Virginia Hawkins Holloman Goodman, 80, of the Mount Olive/Calypso area, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 25, 2020, at Duke Hospital.
Private services for the immediate family will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home. Graveside rites will be held Wednesday, April 29, at 3 p.m. at the Goodman Cemetery at Rooty Branch Church.
Virginia was born in Sampson County. Her first marriage was to Grainger Wilkins Holloman. Following their divorce, she met and married Joseph Gurman Goodman, and after his death in 1997, she met Jack Taylor who was a dear friend and companion for 18 years before his death in 2017.
Her working career began at Chas. F. Cates & Son Inc. in Faison where she was a laboratory technician. She then gained employment with Charlie Thompson at Witherington-Thompson Insurance Agency which later became Brewer Insurance. In time to come, she was employed with Eldon Thornton at Thornton Insurance in Faison, which evolved into Ficken-Blackwelder-Thornton Insurance, and from them, she ultimately retired.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane H. and Robert Garner of Faison, and Chrystal G. and Joey Holmes of Mount Olive; a sister, Frances Jean Autry of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, Holly Garner Best and husband Aaron, Tami Marie Garner Blust and husband Matt, Robbie Garner, Joshua Lee Holmes, and Rhonda Hernandez Flores; and eight great-grandchildren, Hayden Best, Mason and Tristyn Blust, and Noah, Gabriella, Miranda, Camilla, and Savanna Hernandez Flores. Also surviving her is her best friend, Peggy Wellington Eason of Mount Olive, and her Goodman family.
Along with husband, Joe, and friend, Jack, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Gard Bill Hawkins and Inez Benson Hawkins Dantzler; and a brother, Allen Dantzler.
