United Way of Wayne County and the Wayne County Health Department have renewed their contract with Curamericas Global, Inc. through June.

The partnership involves promoting the importance of COVID-19 testing and testing sites, as well as vaccine information, assisting with contact tracing, case management for those who test positive for the virus and making reminder calls to those scheduled to receive their second dose of the vaccine.

The partnership goal is to ensure needs are being met for the county’s most defenseless population.

“It has always been our mission to bring people and resources together to improve our community and our community healthcare workers are the embodiment of our mission,” said Sherry Archibald, executive director of UWWC.

“We are grateful to be able to bring this resource to our community and support our local health department.”

The contract supports 3.5 community healthcare worker positions to assist WCHD. It also allows for an outreach coordinator, who helps deliver emergency food and medication to patients.

“These local community healthcare workers will continue to serve as allies to families who have not received the support needed to navigate this global health emergency,” said Andrew Herrera, executive director of Curamericas Global.

“Community-based healthcare workers are able to establish trusting relationships with the families, connecting them to vital resources and information, helping them to receive access to care they desperately need, food resources to feed their families or support for employment.”

Curamericas is a recipient of the NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) community healthcare workers grant. The organization works with more than 25 counties statewide.

“We are grateful to partner alongside this professional organization to meet the needs of our community in a stronger way," Archibald said.
