UMO student selected to intern with library

Will Allen, a senior at the University of Mount Olive, has been selected for Marty Tschetter Local History Internship.

A native of Oak Island, Allen will intern with the local history department at Wayne County Public Library. He is pursuing a major in history and minor in English.

“I’m excited to learn more about the local history of Wayne County and the inner workings of a public history department,” Allen said.

Interested in a career in libraries or museums, Allen looks to gain skills that he can use to help build his professional resume and explore professional options. He is currently learning how to add content to the library’s digital exhibit software, Pass It Down.

Allen is adding content to expand the Wayne County Memories exhibit, a community-curated exhibit that includes content from the library’s collections and stories from local community members. He also hopes to complete independent research for his senior internship course on the community of Everettsville and the lives of former residents such as Elizabeth Collier.

“This internship seeks to honor Marty Tschetter by passing down his passion for local history to a new generation,” says Kelsey Chandler, current local history reference librarian at WCPL.
