Town officials prepare for budget retreat

The annual budget retreat for Mount Olive town officials is May 22.

Mayor Ken Talton, the board of commissioners and Town Manager Jammie Royall will meet at the Historic Train Depot. The day-long session begins at 9 a.m.

Royall said the proposed budget is similar to the current operating budget.

Changes could be made to employees’ salaries. In past years, pay raises have occurred across the board and adjusted for cost of living expenses.

A merit system could be implemented that would involve more input from department heads, including possible evaluations.

“We are still in the planning stage of it, but we are moving along,” Royall said.

Royall didn’t anticipate any change in capital improvements for the upcoming year.

He anxiously awaits the new trash pickup service, which is effective July 1.
