Saints' softball team crushes J.H. Rose

GREENVILLE - Anna Summerlin emerged as the winning pitcher and delivered three RBI offensively as Southern Wayne hammered out an 18-7 win over Eastern Carolina 3A-4A Conference rival J.H. Rose on Tuesday evening.

Summerlin logged five strikeouts inside the circle and batted 2-for-2 at the plate.

“Anna showed a lot of resilience getting out difficult counts, extremely proud of her,” SW head coach Jamie Williams said.

Allie Lane belted a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning that scored Jamaiya Bass (1-for-1) and Madison Holmes. Lane touched home plate on an RBI single by Abbey Parker.

Layla Rackley cranked out a double and triple.

“I’m so proud of my girls,” Williams said. “They faced a lot of adversity in this game with the umpires being extremely inconsistent, but they persevered.”

The Saints (2-2 overall, 2-2 ECC) entertain D.H. Conley on Thursday.
