MOFD’s new trucks are in

Two new, shiny fire trucks occupy the old former rescue squad building in town.

Mount Olive Fire Department Chief Greg Wiggins said the 2021 Pierce Enforcer vehicles are undergoing equipment installation and hopes they’ll be in service by the end of September. They’re capable of pumping 1,500 gallons of water.

The vehicles replace a 2002 and 1996 model that pumped 1,250 gallons.

A U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) program offered a buy one, get one free deal. USDA provided a $654,000 grant and $546,000 loan. Total cost was $1.2 million.

Wiggins said when the department undergoes another inspection, the new trucks will play a significant role in raising the local fire rating.
