Mount Olive resident and veteran educator Tammy Keel has been named new principal of Eastern Wayne Middle School.
Keel, a former principal at Mount Olive Middle School, replaces Dexter Evans, who resigned from his post on Dec. 2.
The wife of former Town of Mount Olive Building Inspector Danny Keel. Tammy Keel has served in education since 1999. She has more than 14 years of school administration and district level support experience.
She was principal at MOMS for seven years and was named Wayne County Public Schools Principal of the Year in 2014.
She holds an associate’s degree in business administration, a bachelor’s degree in management and organizational development, a master’s degree in school administration and a doctorate’s degree in leadership in educational administration. Keel said she views her new job as a challenge and a privilege.
“Eastern Wayne Middle has some amazing students and an outstanding staff. It is truly a great school and our focus remains steadfast on teaching, learning and most importantly student success,” she said.
