    Pastor of the Year

Dr. Elder Donald Wells was chosen on Sept. 14 at a banquet in the Greenville Convention Center as Pastor of the Year 2019. Congratulations Dr. Donald Wells! Wells was born June 30, 1959, in Fremont. He is the husband of Elder Brenda Wells and the father of six children, 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He is a licensed assistant in the physical therapy department at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goldsboro. For 13 years, he has been the pastor of St. James Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ located in Vanceboro. He also serves on the board of elders at the Goldsboro Raleigh District Assembly. At an early age, he took an interest in reading from his mother Eva Gray Crawford, who did not finish high school but would have him check out books from the school library, so she could read while he was in the fifth grade.

He later watched her return for higher education to get her high school diploma and even graduate from college to get her Associate degree in Childhood Development. Raised in a home of five with one brother and three other sisters, he was also fascinated with Biblical training through his grandmother, Lily Mae Barnes, who was a missionary in the Missionary Baptist Church. He started going to Bible College at an early age at the Tabernacle Bible Institute under the leadership of Apostle Johnnie Washington and Apostle Lawrence Bogier. After he finished all of the institute’s courses, he became an instructor for nine years in the teacher training class for the school. He also returned to school in the secular world to obtain certification as a network system specialist, and internet system specialist from the School of Communications Arts in Raleigh. He also received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the Greater Mount Zion Bible College and Seminary, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s in theology. He also became an instructor, setting up a satellite school in Greenville.
