Gators' Hill, Evans regional bound

GOLDSBORO - Spring Creek’s senior tandem of Riley Hill and Anna Evans clinched a berth in the east 2A girls’ tennis regional.

Hill-Evans finished fourth in the season-ending Neuse Six 2A Conference tournament contested at Herman Park on Wednesday.

The duo defeated Beddingfield’s Ana Ramirez-Aiajah Hopkins 8-0. They dropped a heart-breaking, 10-8 decision to North Johnston’s Emily Scott-Taylor Boswell in semifinal-round play.

In the third-place match, Hill-Evans endured a 10-2 loss against North Johnston’s Alicia Gachuz-Alison Barber.

“It is great to see both Riley and Anna qualify for regionals for the first time in their senior year,” said SC head coach Robert Jones. “They both have improved so much this year due to their hard work and it is good to see it come to fruition today.”

The east 2A regional is Oct. 22-23 at Greene Central High School.
