MOUNT OLIVE — As summer begins to wind down, the Mount Olive community is preparing for another season of youth athletics as registration opens for the FCA Mount Olive Hurricanes Youth Football and Cheerleading program.
For nearly three decades, the Hurricanes have provided young athletes in the Mount Olive area with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of football, build relationships and develop valuable life skills both on and off the field.
A Tradition Nearly 30 Years Strong
Local FCA leader Ronnie Wise, who has helped lead the organization for years, said the Mount Olive Hurricanes have been a part of the community for approximately 30 years.
The program provides opportunities for children interested in flag football, tackle football and cheerleading. While competition is an important part of the experience, the Hurricanes’ mission extends beyond the playing field, with an emphasis on character, leadership, teamwork and positive mentorship.
“We are looking for helpers, like coaches and volunteers, to help lead these teams,” Wise said.
With another season on the horizon, the organization is calling on members of the Mount Olive community who are willing to give their time, knowledge and experience to help guide the next generation of athletes.
Opportunities for Young Athletes
The Hurricanes offer multiple age divisions, allowing children to participate at an appropriate level as they learn and develop their skills.
Tackle football is available for players in the 8U, 10U and 12U divisions, while flag football is offered for children ages 4-6U.
Registration is $30 for flag football and $50 for tackle football, providing families with an affordable opportunity to introduce their children to organized youth sports.
The program also features cheerleading, giving young athletes another opportunity to become involved, develop their skills, and represent the Mount Olive Hurricanes throughout the season.
More Than Just a Game
Although football and cheerleading are at the heart of the program, the FCA Mount Olive Hurricanes place a strong emphasis on developing young people beyond their athletic abilities.
Through its connection with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the program focuses on character development, leadership, faith-based mentorship and building relationships with positive role models.
The Hurricanes’ youth sports program is built around FCA’s core values of Integrity, Serving, Teamwork and Excellence.
Those principles provide a foundation for coaches, volunteers and mentors as they work with young athletes throughout the season, teaching lessons that can extend well beyond the football field.
Community Support Remains Essential
As registration gets underway, the Hurricanes are also asking members of the Mount Olive community to step forward and join the program.
Coaches, volunteers, and other helpers are needed to assist the teams and provide guidance to young athletes. For an organization that has been part of the community for approximately three decades, continued community support will be essential to keeping the Hurricanes’ tradition alive.
