North Duplin volleyball is preparing for a new chapter after a strong campaign that included a second-place finish in conference play and a playoff berth. Now, the Rebels look ahead to a season of transition as they enter a rebuilding year under experienced head coach Heather Best, who has guided the program through multiple successful seasons.

Despite the changes ahead, the foundation of the program remains steady, built on effort, development, and consistency.

A Program Philosophy Rooted in Growth

Coach Heather Best continues to emphasize a simple but powerful standard for her team: improvement every day.

Her philosophy centers on consistent growth, becoming better than the version of yourself you were at the start of the season. That mindset has helped shape North Duplin into a competitive force in the Carolina 1A/2A conference and continues to guide the program into this new year.

“We are excited for the season, but it will be different,” the program shared, acknowledging the loss of several key contributors from last year’s roster. “This will be a rebuilding year, but we are still confident in this team.”

Leadership Returns With Six Senior Standouts

Even in a rebuilding season, the Rebels will lean heavily on leadership and experience. North Duplin returns six seniors expected to anchor the roster and set the tone for the younger players stepping into new roles.

Those leaders include Abigeal Brown, Hannah Gonzalez, Tristyn Blust, Addison Smith, Kloe DeHoyas, Sophia Davis, and Maggie Brown. Each player is expected to take on expanded responsibilities as the team adjusts to new lineups and rotations.

With several position changes already implemented, the Rebels are preparing for flexibility across the roster. While adjustments may take time, the coaching staff believes the group’s energy and versatility will ultimately become a strength.

New Faces, New Chemistry, Same Rebel Identity

This year’s North Duplin squad features several new faces, making chemistry a key focus heading into the season. Practices throughout the summer have emphasized communication, effort, and building trust on and off the court.

Coach Best has also praised the team’s commitment during summer workouts, noting the consistent attendance and willingness to learn as early signs of growth.

“We’ve got a lot of energy and talent,” the program noted. “Now it’s about putting it all together.”

A More Familiar Conference Landscape

Entering the second year of Carolina 1A/2A conference realignment, Coach Best and her staff feel more prepared for what lies ahead. With a full season of experience against conference opponents, the Rebels now have a clearer understanding of each team’s strengths and playing styles.

“We know more about the teams in the conference now,” the program said. “Many of them are strong, and we’re looking forward to competing and getting better.”

That experience could prove valuable as North Duplin navigates a competitive schedule filled with challenging matchups.

Community Support Remains a Key Focus

As the Rebels prepare for the season, Coach Best also delivered a message to fans and the North Duplin community showing up matters.

“These girls work hard every day,” she emphasized. “The energy from familiar faces in the stands really helps them.”

With a young roster and a season of transition ahead, community support could play a major role in keeping momentum strong throughout the year.

Rebels Focus on Progress and Long-Term Growth

While the Rebels may be in a rebuilding phase, expectations remain high for growth, competitiveness, and development throughout the season. With strong senior leadership, a committed coaching staff, and a determined group of athletes, North Duplin volleyball enters the year focused on progress one match at a time.

The Mount Olive Tribune thanks Coach Heather Best and the North Duplin volleyball program for their time and continued cooperation in covering the Rebels.
