GOLDSBORO — The matchup between the Southern Wayne Lady Saints and the Goldsboro Lady Cougars opened with immediate intensity, as the Lady Cougars came out pressing hard against the Saints’ defense. No. 14 Hayley Aldana led a strong attack, but the Cougars’ Goalkeeper Sophia Westbrook delivered another key save to keep Goldsboro in the match. The Lady Saints came close to extending their lead when No. 8 Lolani Oates fired a shot that narrowly missed crossing the line.
As the half progressed, both teams battled for control. Southern Wayne had multiple opportunities but struggled to convert, with miscommunication and missed chances preventing them from adding to their score.
Goldsboro’s persistence finally paid off late in the match. At the 69:16 mark, the Lady Cougars took advantage of a miscommunication by the Lady Saints and found the equalizer, tying the game at 1–1.
