Bulldogs Strike Early in the First Half

The Lady Bulldogs opened the match with possession, looking sharp from the first whistle. However, Southern Wayne quickly responded when No. 5 Perla Vera delivered a powerful clearing kick that briefly swung momentum in the Saints’ favor.

Princeton regained control with a steal and capitalized early, netting the first goal around the 38-minute mark of the first half. Southern Wayne attempted to regroup after a strong drive from No. 5 Perla Vera sparked an energy shift, but the Bulldogs maintained pressure.

Princeton extended its lead at the 31:14 mark to go up 2-0 and continued its offensive surge. A corner kick at 26:25 led to another Bulldogs goal, followed by yet another score at 23:35, putting Southern Wayne in an early 4-0 deficit.

Despite the scoreline, the Lady Saints showed flashes of promise. No. 9 Abigail Ruiz provided a bright spark offensively, while No. 23 Jamiyah Lennox anchored the defense with key stops. An offside call against Princeton briefly returned possession to Southern Wayne, and Head Coach Blackwell made crucial lineup adjustments that immediately energized the squad.

Saints Find the Net Before Halftime

The adjustments paid off. After a strong setup drive by No. 12 Rosalinda Quiroz, No. 4 Olivia Ruiz found the back of the net at the 13:32 mark, cutting into the deficit and giving the Saints renewed confidence. The goal energized the sideline and shifted momentum late in the half.

Princeton continued to press, but goalkeeper Molly Barrett stood tall. Barrett delivered back-to-back impressive saves, denying the Bulldogs on multiple scoring opportunities. She remained composed during a corner kick sequence and kept the Saints within reach heading into the break.

Southern Wayne generated additional chances before halftime, including two promising drives, but both shots sailed wide right.
