Southern Wayne closes the season strong against North Lenoir, Goldsboro

GOLDSBORO — Southern Wayne capped off its wrestling season in impressive fashion, earning decisive victories over North Lenoir and Goldsboro in a night full of intensity, grit, and statement performances. From early takedowns to dominant pins, the Saints made it clear they were determined to finish the year on a high note.

Southern Wayne vs. North Lenoir

Weight 132:

The matchup between the Saints and Hawks kicked off with high energy. North Lenoir’s Marreo Bester came out aggressive, breaking down Southern Wayne’s Luis Gonzales-Cabrera early and jumping out to a commanding 13-point lead. Gonzales-Cabrera fought back, adding three points of his own, but the comeback attempt fell short as Bester controlled the remainder of the bout to secure the win for the Hawks.

Weight 150:

Southern Wayne’s Zachary Sauls wasted no time, scoring three quick points against North Lenoir’s Luis Ordonez. Luis Ordonez answered back with two points, but Sauls stayed relentless, adding five more points and maintaining control. Zachary Sauls sealed the victory in emphatic fashion with a final push that led to a pin.

Weight 157:

Jordan Valentine delivered a dominant performance for the Saints. North Lenoir’s Jaylen Wooten struggled to find his rhythm, while Jordan Valentine controlled the pace and the scoreboard throughout the match. Valentine ended the bout in dramatic fashion with a pin, earning a convincing win.

Southern Wayne vs. Goldsboro

Weight 132:

Luis Gonzales-Cabrera bounced back strong for Southern Wayne, taking an early lead against the Cougars. Goldsboro attempted to rally, but Gonzales-Cabrera shut down any momentum with a commanding finish, earning a 15–2 victory.

Weight 150:

This matchup proved to be one of the toughest of the night, with both teams trading points in a hard-fought back-and-forth battle. Each wrestler showed determination and resilience, making it a closely contested bout.

Weight 157:

Jordan Valentine once again impressed, taking care of business with ease. The Cougars struggled to generate offense, allowing Valentine to control the match from start to finish.

Weight 113:

One of the most hyped matches of the night came at 113 pounds. Southern Wayne’s Isaiah Smith and his Goldsboro opponent moved exceptionally well, creating an exciting and fast-paced contest. Smith rose to the challenge and came away with a big victory for the Saints.

Final Results

Southern Wayne claimed the overall win in both match sets, securing two major team victories to close out the season. The Saints finished strong, showcasing their depth, discipline, and determination on the mat.
