Round 3: Spring Creek Gators vs. Southern Wayne Saints

The Southern Wayne Saints set the tone early and never looked back as they defeated the Spring Creek Gators, 77–50, in a battle to determine seventh place in the FCA Tournament.

First Quarter: Saints Strike Early and Take Control

The Saints opened the game with confidence, striking first on a basket by No. 21 Jeremiah Armwood. They immediately applied a full-court press, creating problems for the Gators from the opening tip. Spring Creek managed to break the pressure, earning a trip to the free-throw line where No. 14 Ethan Rivers went 1-for-1.

Momentum briefly swung when No. 14 Ethan Rivers came up with a steal and converted a big basket, but the Saints quickly responded. A basket by No. 2 Douglas Wynn put Southern Wayne back in front, followed by a strong three-pointer from No. 23 Ivory Moore. The Saints extended their lead with a basket and one finish by No. 1 Jaylen Carr, pushing the score to 14–3.

Southern Wayne’s pressure continued to pay dividends, forcing another turnover that led to a three-pointer by No. 2 Douglas Wynn. The Gators struggled to find rhythm, while the Saints capitalized at the free-throw line, with No. 1 Jaylen Carr sinking both shots after a foul.

Despite a drive to the basket by No. 12 Tristan Pate that resulted in a free throw 1-for-1, the Gators couldn’t slow the Saints’ momentum. After a Saints timeout, missed free throws by Spring Creek allowed Southern Wayne to maintain control. The first quarter ended with the Saints firmly ahead, 24–13.

Second Quarter: Saints Maintain the Upper Hand

Spring Creek opened the second quarter with energy, as No. 3 Hunter Gunn knocked down a three-pointer in an effort to spark a comeback. Another steal and basket by No. 14 Ethan Rivers added hope for the Gators, but the Saints answered immediately with a deep three from No. 23 Ivory Moore.

The back-and-forth continued with a basket by No. 1 Jaayden McLean for the Gators, followed by a response from No. 11 Jayden Bonds for the Saints. A timeout was called by Spring Creek head coach Caldwell, who emphasized adjustments needed to close the gap, while Saints coach West urged his team to keep the pressure high.

After the timeout, a jump ball gave possession back to Southern Wayne. Although the Gators managed another basket to trim the deficit, the Saints remained in control. At halftime, Southern Wayne led 45–27.

A three-pointer by No. 3 Hunter Gunn briefly cut into the deficit, prompting a Saints timeout with the score at 61–35. After the break, the Gators found the net with a basket by No. 5 Malachi Moore but Southern Wayne responded once again. The third quarter ended with the Saints firmly in control, 63–39.

Fourth Quarter: Saints Seal the Victory

Spring Creek started the final period with possession and scored first on a basket by No. 15 Treyshon Rivers. A highlight sequence followed, as No. 3 Hunter Gunn recorded a big block that led to another basket by No. 15 Treyshon Rivers.

Southern Wayne continued to execute with a basket by No. 11 Jayden Bonds and a deep three that extended their lead. The Gators earned a trip to the free-throw line, where No. 15 Treyshon Rivers went 1-for-1, but time was no longer on their side.

As the clock wound down, the Saints maintained their composure and closed out the game. Southern Wayne secured the victory with a final score of 77–50, earning seventh place in the FCA Tournament.
