FOUR OAKS — Taylor Lee etched her name in the Southern Wayne volleyball record books Monday afternoon during a 21-25, 19-25, 25-20, 13-25 setback against Quad County 3A member South Johnston.

Lee doled out 27 assists, which pushed her past the 1,000-assist mark for her varsity career. The senior setter collected three kills, nine digs and committed just five ball-handling errors in 98 attempts.

Mylee Wiggs posted a double-double — 13 kills, 14 digs.

Jy’Asha Cousins stuffed her stat sheet with 15 kills, eight blocks, three digs and one assist. Morgan Brimberry provided 11 digs, five kills, two assists and two aces,

Jacey Hargrove notched nine digs. Jurnae Ammons logged three blocks, while Alysa Craft supplied three digs.

Southern Wayne recorded 37 kills and 49 digs as a team. Meanwhile, South Johnston filed 44 kills, 13 service aces and 55 digs as team.

The Saints (3-14 overall, 1-10 QCC) travel to county rival Goldsboro today for a non-conference doubleheader inside Norvell T. Lee Gymnasium. They return home Thursday for a QCC battle against Smithfield-Selma.

FOUR OAKS — Southern Wayne recorded a fifth-place team score of 160 during a Quad County 3A girls’ golf meet contested Monday afternoon.

Regan Stribble emerged as the Saints’ low scorer with a nine-hole round of 50 on the Reedy Creek Golf Course links. Teammates Chloe Sullivan and Avery Jennette each carded a 60.

Kenzi Aycock fired a 63.

West Johnston’s Jenna Underwood claimed medalist honors with a 3-over-39. South Johnston’s Danielle Morgan finished two strokes back at 41. Fike teammates Payton Durham and Loulie Harrison each turned in a 44.

South Johnston’s Kimsey Bagley and Hunt’s Cassidy Kyles each logged a 46. Charles B. Aycock’s Marinah Bryan recorded a season-low 47.

South edged Fike 133-136 in the team standings. West Johnston (143), Hunt (156) and Southern Wayne completed the top five.

The next QCC meet is Oct. 7 at Smithfield-Selma.
