Gomez sparks Saints

Gomez punched in two goals and dished out an assist.

Ivan Alvarado supplied one goal and one assist. Angel Ramirez assisted on Gomez’s second goal.

“We scored a goal early on, but then got a bit weak when conceding a goal,” SW head coach Luis Ramirez said. “[We] went out in the second half with a bit more purpose and clearer game plan, which ultimately helped us with the win.”

The Saints (3-6-0 overall, 1-0-0 QCC) snapped a two-game skid. They improved to 6-0-1 against the Warriors since the league’s inception in 2021.

Junior Dominique Hamilton tallied Hunt’s lone goal off an assist from freshman Anthony Hamilton. The Warriors departed 4-5-1 overall and 0-1 against league opposition.

Depending on field conditions, Southern Wayne returns home Thursday for a QCC encounter against South Johnston. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. on the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex pitch.

Tigers notch ECC win

WARSAW — Peter Omega punched in two goals and James Kenan remained unbeaten on its home pitch with a 5-2 triumph over East Central 2A foe South Lenoir.

Isaias Ruiz, Ronald Ramirez and Robert Ordone collected one goal apiece for the Tigers, who are 3-0 at Bill Taylor Field this season.

Goalie Jerson Lizardo recorded eight saves.

“As for the match, I’m not real happy with our performance because I know what we are capable of,” said Kenan head coach Mitchell Quinn. “We did not meet those expectations last night, although there were a few moments that we moved the ball really well, resulting in goals.

“We need to be more consistent from the start to finish. [Am] hoping things will improve each match from here on out.”

James Kenan (5-2-0 overall) was playing its ECC opener against South Lenoir, which exited 7-3-1 overall and 0-2 in league matters this season. The Tigers are 33-1-0 in conference play since 2021.
