DUDLEY — The frustrating skid is over.

Southern Wayne halted a 10-match losing streak with a 25-21, 25-12, 26-24 triumph over Quad County 3A volleyball foe East Wake inside “The Halo” on Thursday evening.

The Saints avenged a road loss to the Warriors.

Jy’Asha Cousins cranked out a season-high 17 kills and logged five blocks. Junior Mylee Wiggs just missed a double-double with eight kills and 12 digs.

Four-year starting setter Taylor Lee distributed 25 assists and notched six digs. Lee had 26 assists in the previous meeting against East Wake.

Sophomore Jurnae Ammons provided a team-high six blocks and two kills. Morgan Brimberry delivered three kills and seven digs, while libero Jayce Hargrove picked up a team-best 11 digs.

Senior defensive specialist Alysa Craft collected five digs.

Lee, Brimberry and Craft served one assist apiece.

The Saints committed just five attack errors in 59 swings.

Southern Wayne (3-11 overall, 1-7 QCC) returns home next Tuesday to face QCC foe West Johnston.

Gators’ game canceled

SEVEN SPRINGS — Unplayable field conditions prompted the postponement of Spring Creek’s non-conference, boys’ soccer matchup against James Kenan scheduled for Thursday evening.

Administrators made the decision before noon. A potential make-up date was not announced.

Spring Creek (3-6-2 overall) entertains Holly Ridge Dixon on Monday. Kickoff is 6 p.m.

Tigers VB drops ECC match

WARSAW — James Kenan endured a 14-25, 23-25, 18-25 setback to East Central 2A volleyball foe Southwest Onslow inside Harmon Gym on Thursday evening.

Sophomore multi-sport athlete Y’Anna Rivers paced the Tigers with six kills and two service aces. Aleya Wilson served two aces.

Alayjah Wilson (two aces), Kierra Williams (two blocks) and Sienna Pender (two digs) also played hard in the disappointing three-set loss.

James Kenan (6-7 overall, 1-4 ECC) visits Duplin County rival Wallace-Rose Hill next Tuesday. SW Onslow (2-11, 2-3) is the guest of East Duplin the same evening.
