NEWTON GROVE — Frustrated with results from a challenging non-conference schedule, Spring Creek finally experienced a positive result Wednesday evening.

Senior Diego Lopez notched two goals during the Gators’ 3-1 conquest of former Carolina 1A Conference rival Hobbton. Senior Marin Lopez added one goal for the SC, which entered the contest 0-5-1 in its previous six outings this season.

Seniors Homar Lopez and Emanuel Rangel, and junior Fray Alexis Lucas Lopez supplied one assist apiece.

The two traditional soccer powers battled a player down due to red cards. Each team received two yellow cards.

SC goalies Edgar Avila (three saves) and Gustabo Vargas Fajardo shared time between the pipes. The Gators won their third straight meeting in the series and improved to 9-6-2 against the Wildcats since 2011.

Weather permitting and depending on field conditions, Spring Creek (3-6-2 overall) entertains James Kenan today. The JV game kicks off at 4:30 p.m. in “The Swamp.”
