DUDLEY — Traditional girls’ tennis powerhouse Charles B. Aycock needed just over an hour to sweep the singles courts Monday afternoon at Southern Wayne.

The dominating effort led to a 9-0 conquest of the Saints on the Quad County 3A scene.

“I saw some good points from our players on every court today,” SW head coach David Van Dyke said. “The team just couldn’t string many [points] together to pick up a lot of game wins. I am proud of the way they competed today against a very experienced team.”

The Golden Falcons entered the match ranked No. 1 among the state’s eastern 3A schools according to the MaxPreps RPI. They dropped just seven games — five in singles and two in doubles.

CBA collected six shutouts.

Van Dyke named Kylie Hyde as the player-of-the-match for the Saints. Hyde played No. 5 singles last season as a sophomore and moved up to the No. 2 position this year.

Directed by veteran head coach Donald Clark, the Golden Falcons exited 12-1 overall and 6-1 against QCC opposition.

The Saints (0-5) slipped to 0-5 in league matters.

“We will address some things at practice [Tuesday] and be ready to take on East Wake on Wednesday,” Van Dyke said.

Match time is 3:30 p.m.
