Saints upend Warriors

GOLDSBORO — Southern Wayne served 21 aces as a team during its 25-17, 25-12, 25-13 triumph over county rival Eastern Wayne on Thursday evening.

Morgan Brimberry served a team-high seven aces. Mylee Wiggs drilled four aces, while Jacey Hargrove and Alysa Craft provided three aces apiece.

Jy’Asha Cousins supplied six kills, while Wiggs collected three. The Saints had 12 kills as a team.

Taylor Lee passed out 12 assists.

Southern Wayne (2-1 overall) launches its Quad County 3A Conference season Tuesday at East Wake.

Tigers drop home affair

WARSAW — Coming off an emotional, five-set conquest over a county rival 24 hours earlier, James Kenan dropped a 17-25, 14-25, 22-25 decision to Hobbton inside Harmon Gymnasium on Thursday evening.

Ava Jones turned in a solid floor game with five kills, two service aces and two digs. Shylah Sloan registered four kills, two aces and two blocks.

Kierra Williams contributed four blocks and five digs. Y’Anna Rivers posted three kills, while Jourdan Joe had two kills and two digs.

Alayjah Wright served two aces.

Defensively, Jazmine Lopez supplied three digs. Sierra Pender and Kenadi Giddeons had two digs apiece.

James Kenan (2-2 overall) is the guest of Lakewood on Monday. Hobbton remained unbeaten in four outings this season.

Panthers sweep Rebels

BEULAVILLE — North Duplin endured a 21-25, 14-25, 11-25 non-conference loss against county volleyball rival East Duplin on Thursday evening.

Libero Marissa Bernal supplied eight digs and eight aces for the Rebels, who fell to 1-3 overall this season.

Lilly Fulghum dished out 10 assists and served six aces. Ady Spence contributed three digs and four aces, while Abigeal Norris Brown collected three kills.

Maggie Brown registered four aces and three kills. Senior Tateyawna Faison notched four solo blocks and three kills. Eva Quintanilla had five aces and three kills.

M’Chelle Jaco logged eight digs.

North Duplin travels to Lejeune next Tuesday.

Tigers blank NoJo

WARSAW — Annual boys’ soccer powerhouse James Kenan racked up a 6-0, non-conference win over North Johnston at Bill Taylor Field on Thursday evening.
