ROSE HILL — Anxious to step back onto the volleyball court after a season-opening setback six days ago, James Kenan responded well Monday evening.

The Tigers swept Union 25-13, 25-22, 25-20.

“[Our] serves were a lot better along with coverage,” second-year Kenan head coach Katina Farrior said.

Kierra Williams paced the Tigers with three kills and one block. Jourdan Joe provided three blocks, one kill and served three aces. Ava Jones posted two blocks and an ace.

Farrior selected Williams as player of the game.

“The team will less mistakes wins the game,” Farrior said.

James Kenan snapped a five-game skid against the Spartans, who own an 11-7 edge in the series since 2007.

The Tigers (1-1 overall) hit the road Wednesday for a non-conference outing at county rival North Duplin. The JV match begins at 4:30 p.m.
